It was a mixed bag for the Aussies on the first day of tennis competition at the Tokyo Olympics, with John Millman and the team of Storm Sanders and Ash Barty winning comfortably, but Sam Stosur losing.
Millman was first up, easily beating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
He'll now play Spanish young gun Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who recently enjoyed a spirited run to the quarter-finals at the French Open - if Millman wins that, a potential match-up with Novak Djokovic looms in the third round.
Unfortunately for the veteran Australian, she went down 6-4, 6-2.
The team of Ash Barty and Storm Sanders needed less than an hour to get past Japan's Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Barty will start her singles campaign tomorrow morning, as will James Duckworth and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Stosur will get a quick shot a redemption as she teams up with Ellen Perez for their women's doubles clash, while Millman teams with Luke Saville in the men's.
