KTR bans protests at Osmania University, calls it a direct attack on democracy

Protests have been banned in Osmania University. BRS Working President KTR called it a direct attack on democracy. For the latest updates on Telangana, visit Vaartha’s Telangana section.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he questioned: “If the Congress really believes in democracy, why is it resorting to authoritarian measures to suppress student protests?” Criticizing the Congress for its apparent double standards, KTR said the party had promised the right to protest as part of its 'seventh guarantee' during its election campaign. However, in less than a year, the same Congress government broke that promise by banning student protests.

KTR also highlighted repeated instances of repressive policies being carried out by the BJP-led central and state governments on student movements in universities across the country. He accused the Congress of repeating the BJP's dictatorial tactics in Telangana, which proves that both parties are suppressing dissent through similar methods. “Suppressing the voice of students is a clear symbol of dictatorship. The Congress government in Telangana is now showing its true colours by curbing the fundamental right of students to protest."

Osmania University, which played a key role in the Telangana movement, is now being turned into a prison under this oppressive regime,” he said. Criticizing the government for its misplaced priorities, he said that instead of addressing serious issues like contaminated food in university hostels – where students recently found worms and even razor blades in their food – the Congress government was focused on suppressing student dissent. KTR warned that the Congress government’s undemocratic actions would not go unchallenged and the students and people of Telangana would soon give a fitting reply to its betrayal. He reiterated that the BRS would stand with the students and fight against any attempt to suppress their voice.
