Delhi: In the national capital, Delhi, polling for the Legislative Assembly elections is progressing peacefully. Polling began at 7 AM, and within the first hour, several prominent figures, including President Droupadi Murmu, exercised their right to vote. By 6 PM, more than 1.56 crore voters in Delhi had cast their votes. The contest for the 70 Assembly seats has become a triangular battle between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, BJP, and Congress. Tight security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incidents during the voting. Around 30,000 police officers and 230 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed.

Prominent personalities who exercised their voting rights include:

  • President Droupadi Murmu, the first citizen of the country, cast her vote at the polling station set up in the Presidential Estate.
  • Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi voted at the Nirman Bhawan polling center.
  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his wife cast their votes at the polling station in Tughlak Crescent.
  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, his wife Lakshmi Puri, and other family members voted at Anand Niketan.
  • BJP MP and daughter of the late leader Sushma Swaraj, Bansuri Swaraj, exercised her right to vote at the polling station in Janpath.
  • Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi voted at K Kamraj Lane.
  • Senior leader Manish Sisodia and his wife Seema cast their votes together in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
  • Delhi Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena voted at Raj Niwas Marg, while Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cast his vote in Kalka Ji.
