Millions of viewers around the world have watched as the Tokyo Olympic Games were finally opened, in a moving Opening Ceremony that was delayed by 12 months by the COVID-19 pandemic. Check out the best images from the ceremony that culminated in tennis star Naomi Osaka lighting the cauldron.

Olympic boxing hopeful Arisa Tsubata is one of three athletes who performed by working out, signifying how athletes have had to train in isolation during the pandemic.

Tsubata, who is also a nurse who has treated COVID-19 patients during the pandemic, missed qualifying for the Games after the pandemic forced a change to the process.
